The D‑Link DMC‑540SSC is a media converter used to bridge networks that use different physical media. In simpler terms: it converts standard copper Ethernet signals to fiber‑optic signals (and vice versa). This allows you to connect devices over long distances — far beyond what regular ethernet cables (like Cat5/6) support.

This converter has one RJ‑45 port for twisted‑pair Ethernet (10/100BASE‑TX) and one SC‑type fiber port (100BASE‑FX). With this, you can link two network segments: one that uses copper cable and one using single‑mode fiber. It’s perfect for CCTV installations, long‑range office networking, connecting separate buildings, or extending network reach where fiber optics are preferred or required.
